Tsukuba University Kids University: Undergraduate for a day!

Come and experience the fascination of science and the excitement of university. On Saturday, April 21st of Science and Technology Week, Tsukuba University will be holding special classes and experiments with many interesting events. Please come and enjoy the various different university-themed exercises!

Special Classes

A…The science of the medicines that keep us healthy

10am-11am (30min class and question time), limit 100 people, please register in advance

B…Soccer: the science of free kicks

1pm-2pm (30min class and question time), limit 100 people, please register in advance

Experiments

C…The weird and interesting scientific experiment group

2pm-4pm, limit 30 people, please register in advance

D…Fun Science Lab

10am-4pm (excluding 12-1pm), unlimited participation, no need to register

E…Meeting sea creatures

10am-4pm (excluding 12-1pm), unlimited participation, no need to register

Location: Tsukuba Campus, Sogo Kenkyu Tou A

Mainly aimed at 4-6graders, but junior high/high school students and accompanying parents are also welcome!

To register (A/B/C): Please send an email titled ‘Desire to participate in Science and Technology Week’ (科学技術週間参加希望), listing 1) the name of the class/experiments you want to attend (as many as you like); 2) your names (furigana); 3) name of school or workplace; 4) contact information (address, phone number, email); and send it to the following address.

Bonus #1: A university ID for one day!

People who attend the special events on April 21st will get a ‘one day Tsukuba undergraduate’ ID.

Bonus #2: Collect the stamps and get a prize!

Collect stamps in the stamp rally around campus, and you will receive a prize based on the number of stamps you collect. *Special prize: a paper bearing the autographs of Nadesico Japan’s Ando and Kumatani (Tsukuba students)*

If you get hungry during the events please feel free to have lunch at the university cafeteria!

Participation in all events on April 21st is completely free (excluding the cafeteria)!

1-4;30pm, Sogo Kenkyu Tou B, 0826-0828 lab rooms, no registration necessary

Constructive energy engineering majors open campus

10am-4pm, Dai 3 Area F Tou 4th floor (3F400), no registration necessary

Biology under the electron microscope open campus

1-3pm, Sogo Kenyku Tou A Entrance, viewing tours at 1pm and 2pm, no registration necessary

Take a look at genetically modified plants!

1-3:30pm, Idenshi Jikken Center, guided tours at 1:05/2:35, no registration necessary

Engineering systems open campus, an introduction to topics and experiments

Dai 3 Area L Tou, experiments require registration (aimed at high school students) http://www.esys.tsukuba.ac.jp

The food and nature lab

Closest bus stop…’Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo’; closest parking lot…Honbutokita or Honbutonan

By public transportation:

–          from Tsukuba Center to Tsukuba University…Tsukuba Daigaku Junkan Bus (clockwise or anti-clockwise) or buses going to ‘Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo’

–          using the Tsukuba Express (TX)…get off at Tsukuba Station and take the bus from Tsukuba Center

–          using the Joban line…get off at Hitachi-no-ushiku Station and take the ‘Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo’ bus from the east exit, OR get off at Arakawa-oki Station and take the ‘Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo’ bus from the west exit, OR get off at Tsuchiura Station and take the ‘Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo’ bus from the west exit

By car:

–          using the Joban Expressway…get off at the Sakura Tsuchiura IC, head left towards Tsukuba, turn right at the Sasagi intersection, head north on prefectural route 55 (Higashi Odori), turn left at Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo Iriguchi (in front of Honbuto)

–          using national route 6…from Arakawa-oki (north on prefectural route 55 (Higashi Odori)) go straight at the Sasagi intersection, turn left at Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo Iriguchi (in front of Honbuto)
